Let an AI Agent Operate This Project

From "let the agent read the project" to "one skill set in every agent" โ€” three levels, shallow to deep

This project ships an AGENTS.md written for AI coding assistants: read that one document and an agent can install the project, generate videos and work out why a run failed. Want to skip the learning step? Install the companion skill set. Switching between agents? There is a third level.

Three levels

1

Level 1: point your agent at this repository

The repo ships AGENTS.md with the environment requirements, the four-layer deployment checklist and the shared conventions (log prefixes, retry model, i18n rules). Clone it, then give your agent the sentence below.

> Read the AGENTS.md in this project, install dependencies, configure the API key, and start the server.
> Run the deployment verification checks.

Limitation: AGENTS.md lives in the repository, so the agent must be able to read it โ€” and it covers changing the project as much as operating it.

2

Level 2: install the companion skill set

The skill set packages everyday operations into three ready-made skills, so the agent does not have to work the project out first. They are documentation and small scripts only โ€” no service code, and no credentials pass through them.

The three skills

  • โœ“Usage: deploy, pick a mode, submit and watch a task, edit artifacts at Manual Mode checkpoints
  • โœ“Troubleshoot: find out why a run failed, and whether it is worth fixing
  • โœ“Contrib: change the code and get the PR through CI

Recommended: install with flint

flint is a local-first, open-source skills manager: keep your skills in one place, register them once and deploy them into any agent or project directory. It reads local sources only and never clones for you, so the source you register is the directory cloned above. Open source and free - a star is welcome.

git clone https://github.com/lcy362/agnes-video-generator-skills.git
npx flint-skills-hub # Sources โ†’ add the cloned directory (flint reads its skills/ subdirectory)

Or: copy it in by hand (no flint)

cp -R agnes-video-generator-skills/skills/* <project>/.agents/skills/

The same skills are just plain directories - copy them into a project .agents/skills/ (any agent that reads that directory works). The trade-off: repeat it for every project and every new agent.

Once installed, ask for outcomes

  • ยท My task failed โ€” find out why and tell me if it is worth fixing.
  • ยท The creative video came out silent. I want narration and subtitles โ€” set it up and run it.
  • ยท Take my finished task, improve the storyboard prompts, then regenerate only what is affected.

Level 3: one skill set, every agent

If you switch between agents, register the skill repository in flint, a local-first skills manager: it symlinks or copies the skills into every agent and project directory you use. Everything runs locally โ€” no cloud, no account, no telemetry.

Where an agent helps most: Manual Mode

Manual Mode pauses the pipeline at a checkpoint: the agent reads the artifact manifest, edits the file in place, previews which downstream steps will re-run, then approves. "Polish the narration" becomes one request.

No agent required either: the Web Studio needs no install, and the self-hosted version is the most capable.
